The State Government of Ogun described the protest staged by some athletes who represent the State at the current national sports festival for delayed shares as deplorable.
In a declaration issued by the special consultant of the governor for the media and strategy, the Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the government expressed its disappointment, stating that the protest was incompatible with the values and objectives supported by the state.
He observed that the athletes acted impatiently, since all the necessary agreements had been concluded for the payment of their allowances on Tuesday.
“The governor Dapo Inhabitun remains deeply sensitive and engaged in the well -being of all participants in the Festival. There are no circumstances on the basis of which he would allow Ogun’s athletes to suffer or be neglected.
“The protest today by some athletes is not only unfortunate, but also not requested. It is clearly contrasting with the immense success that the State has recorded in hospit by the Festival, from the opening ceremony to the impressive performance of the Ogun team”, continued the declaration.
He also revealed that the payment of the allowances had already started, with athletes who receive bank notices as expected.
“Those who protested they did it by mistake. It was a clear case of impatience,” he concluded.
