OGUN2025: Fort of the Flag to electrify the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta: Showtime X NAFA Prepare to show the future

In what promises to be a decisive moment for one of Nigeria’s fastest growing sports, Flag Football will face as a demonstration sport at the 22nd National Sports Festival, which is held in Abeokuta, state of Ogun, from May 26 to 27, 2025.

The two -day event, which is now scheduled to take place at the Grammar School of the African Church, North, Abeokuta, will have a showcase as never before, driven by the vision and collaboration of Showtime Flag Football and the Nigeria American Football Association (NAFA).

The National Sports Commission made this historical inclusion possible, under the paternal leadership of Mallam Shehu Dikko (President) and Hon. Bukola Olopade (General Director), whose timely support assured that the football of the flag not only survived, but now is thriving. His intervention brought together the interested parties, solved critical problems and guaranteed flag football a legitimate place in the National Sports Stage.

Eight state teams, Ogun, Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, Enugu, Ondo and Cross Rivers, will compete in two days full of action, with the quarterfinals and semifinals scheduled for day 1, and the young people, third place and the final matches on day 2.

The event will also have the arrival and accreditation, the welcome comments and a basic introduction to flags football, offering athletes and administrators a deeper understanding of the structure, rules and sport growth potential.

Flag football no longer knocks on the door: it is loading with speed, skill and purpose. The trip to national recognition begins here in Abeokuta.
