Okowa officially joined APC, said the switch was Delta’s best interest

The former Governor of the State of Delta, Ifeanya Okowa, has maintained his new defender from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the Congress of All Progressive (APC), describing the decision as a brave and necessary step for the future of the Delta state.

Last week, Okowa, Governor Oborevwori, and other top PDP members at the Delta State announced their defense of APC in what had been described as a significant change in the country’s political landscape.

Speaking on Monday during the formal acceptance ceremony in Cenotaph in Asaba, Okowa said the move was taken after a deep reflection and broad consultation with political stakeholders in the state.

He said: “People -people ask questions why, but one thing is very important: In the history of people, there is always time to change their path for the common good.

“Whatever decisions we make are based on the common good and the need to change our path for the best interests of our country.”

Okowa, who ruled the Delta State from 2015 to 2023 under the PDP, acknowledged the sacrifice made for many years in the opposition, but stressed that it remained cut off from the federal government had harmed the valuable opportunities of the state.

He argues that in line with the ruling party at the national level will more position the state of Delta to benefit from resources and good intentions concentrated in Abuja.

“I am the governor for eight years; I am in conflict. I did my best, but we lost a lot. I do not believe that the governor needs to continue working very hard without the necessary support.

“Because the governor does many things for us, he also needs to be connected to the resources, resources, and greater good intentions in Abuja,” Okowa said.

The former governor stressed that the decision was not made from personal ambitions, but from collective desires to ensure the growth and development of Delta State.

He described the defect as “brave, strategic, patriotic, and well intention.”

Okowa also called for unity in APC and urged old and new members to put aside differences and work together for the good of the bigger country.

He stated optimism that political rearrangement would strengthen APC’s grip in the state of Delta and predict that the party would dominate the future elections in the state and so on.

“We must defend our country. Our country stands far beyond us. It’s time for us to embrace each other, our brothers and sisters who are already in APC, and we have come to the family. We need to work with the unity of the heart.

“It’s time for us to stand together in great support for the President and Mr. Governor, because together we can really dominate politics in the state of Delta. I believe there will be no other party with this step that we have made,” he said.
