Okowa promises unity, the reform when the second mandate begins as president of the AFN

The re -elected president of the Nigeria Athletics Federation (AFN), Tonobok Okowa has promised a new beginning rooted in unity, inclusion and reform when his second term begins in office.

Speaking after his victory without opposition and the swear of the new board of 11 members by a legal officer of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Okowa promised to learn from past mistakes and direct Nigerian athletics towards progress.

“We have gone wrong in the former mandate. We are going to do everything possible and make sure we correct them,” Okowa said. “I want to believe that this time, it won’t be usual.”

Okowa, who emphasized the technical experience within the new Board, said that its composition, rich in coaches and athletics professionals, will be key to implementing future vision strategies and ensuring private sector funds.

“This Board has many technical minds, and by the grace of God, every advice we need to advance in this Federation, we have the right people.” Added. “We are not going to fight like the old Board. We will work together.”

The president of the AFN also assured athletes a more supportive and receptive leadership.

“We will work as brothers and sisters, we will approach our athletes, we will understand their difficult situation and support them from the beginning.

And the National Sports Commission agreed to work with us and try as much as possible to give us funds to work. Then that will facilitate the life of the members of the Federation. “

With renewed leadership and a promise of collaboration, the Nigeria athletics federation now looks towards a new chapter, one focused on unity, responsibility and sustained growth of athletics throughout the country.
