The Governor of the State Edo, Monday, Okpebholo, has described the killing of hunters in the state as savage and unacceptable.
At least 16 hunters were killed by people suspected of being a member of the State’s own vigilante group in Udune, the regional area of Uromi in the state last week.
Okpebholo spoke at a condolence visit to the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, at the government building in Kano on Monday.
He said: “I am very sad with this unfavorable incident. After my arrival, I met my brothers and sisters, who were generous to support me during my election campaign.”
He added that the President of the Tinubu Bola had directed the Inspector General of the Police and other security agents to track the perpetrators and took them to the court.
“We have implemented strong security steps to ask for accountability involved.
“The security body has launched an investigation to bring the perpetrators to the court,” added the Governor.
Okpebholo described the attack disturbing and emphasizing that Nigeria appreciated the sanctity of human life.
“This cowardly acts are contrary to the basic principles of our society, which are rooted in Islamic and Christian teachings.
“So far, 14 suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder. Like Kano remain dear in my heart, we will continue to uphold the value of being the guard of our brothers,” he said.
In his words, Governor Yusuf praised his colleague Edo for quickly overcoming the security situation after the attack.
“We have implemented strong security steps to prevent retaliation attacks.
“We also urge that those arrested are paraded publicly to bring assistance to the families of the victims and to ensure accountability.
“I called the Governor of Okpebholo to ensure that the families of the victims received fair compensation for their loss.
“I also praised President Tinubu for his response and rapid commitment to justice by directing security bodies to pursue the perpetrators,” Yusuf added.
