Oliseh didn’t tell the whole truth in his feud with Mikel and Enyeama: Former Super Eagles ace reveals all

A player who was present when former Nigeria senior national team coach Ol Iseh had an altercation with the duo of Mikel Obi and Vincent Enyeama on Sunday has given his own version of the incident. Own goal Nigeria.com reports.

Former Nigeria senior national team coach has said former team captain John Obi Mikel needs help after labelling him the worst coach to ever handle the Super Eagles.

Speaking on his podcast, Obione Mikel, who had a huge falling out with Oliseh during his time as coach of the team, labelled the former captain as the worst to have managed the team in recent times, saying he was confused and bitter.

โ€œHe (Oliseh) didnโ€™t have the slightest idea of โ€‹โ€‹what a coach is like. He was a fantastic guy when he was a player, but as a coach he was terrible. He didnโ€™t have the slightest idea of โ€‹โ€‹what he was doing,โ€ Mikel said on the ObiOne podcast.

โ€œThe players never understood anything he was doing and he didnโ€™t know what he was doing. He was confused because he just came in and destroyed the teamโ€™s unity.

โ€œHis excuse when he was sacked was that people and the FA cheated him so he wouldnโ€™t succeed. He was easily the worst manager I ever played under.

โ€œHe was so bitter with everyone, jealous of everyone and had no respect for talking to anyone, not the physiotherapist or anyone.โ€

Reacting to the comments, Oliseh, who was also captain of the Super Eagles, said Mikel needs help to criticise him for trying to do what he could not do as a footballer after his career.

โ€œI think the boy (John Mikel Obi) needs help. I think the boy needs help,โ€ he told Elegbete TV.

โ€œI was voted the best coach in the Netherlands at the time. I am the first and only black player from sub-Saharan Africa to have won this award and at the same time, with a club like Fortuna Sittard, which had very mediocre players, we were able to qualify for the second division from last place to the first division where they are now and won a title.

“I don’t need to justify myself as a good coach to the kid, I call him the kid because my son is 27 years old and when he made this statement I found out, but I would like to help the kid because I think he needs help.

โ€œYou canโ€™t become a legend with your words. You canโ€™t achieve what you couldnโ€™t achieve on the pitch as a footballer by speaking and doing podcasts.โ€

Speaking about the fallout, a team member at the time said Oliseh did not tell the whole truth and sided with Mikel’s version that called Oliseh’s reign toxic and disorganized.

โ€I prefer to stick with what Mikel said because that was what happened before my eyes and before the eyes of everyone else at the training ground that day. The lack of respect he showed towards Mikel and Enyeama left us all in disbelief. A new coach taking on the teamโ€™s veteran players will always be a shock.

โ€œI donโ€™t really know what happened before, but what I saw before my eyes and before the eyes of other players was a total lack of respect. As a team we never recovered from that incident. The whole incident made the camp toxic. He took away Enyeamaโ€™s captainโ€™s armband, benched Mikel and appointed a young Ahmed Musa as captain. Everything was very disorganised during his short tenure as coach,โ€ he concluded.
