The former captain and coach of the Senior National Team of Nigeria Sunday, Oliseh, says he is disappointed by the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to hire Eric Chelle as a team coach, reports Owngoalnigeria.com.
Chelle was named by the NFF in February replacing Austine Eguavoen, who played the role in the interim capacity of the AFCon qualifiers.
The Frenchman – Maliense is the first foreigner of Africa in driving the Super Eagles, and Oliseh was left without impressed, qualifying his appointment as a lack of respect for Nigeria’s coaches, whom they should have been able to do the job.
“Africans are not allowed to train abroad, and to the Nigerians are not allowed to train outside their coasts. The only work that is the most precious, let people handle it; that is my opinion,” he said in an interview with Supersports.
“I am not a great admirer of him, I feel that it is a sign of lack of respect for the coaches and the people of Nigeria, I will not comment on how good it is, but it looks like a good guy, but I feel that my country has suffered enough; the coaches, players, former players have suffered enough and have paid the prize, let them do their job.”
However, their statements are not true since Nigerian coaches have trained abroad with people like Emmanuel Amuneke working in Tanzania recently. Former Captain Stephen Keshi trained the national team of Togo and Mali, respectively. Another former coach at Christian Chukwu also trained the Kenyan national team.
