The United Nations Tourism delegation, which arrived in Ekiti State on Saturday, yesterday witnessed an extraordinary phenomenon that captured their hearts and minds.
Led by the Ekiti State Tourism Development Office, chaired by Barrister Wale Ojo-Lanre, the delegation found themselves literally walking on clouds at the beautiful Oluwaleto Farms, perched atop the majestic Mount Golgotha, Efon Alaye, Ekiti State.
Mr Marcel Leijzer, along with esteemed colleagues Precious Ovahabonosa and Okemini Dike, the delegation is in Nigeria to lend their technical expertise in the formulation of the Master Plan for the development of tourism in Ekiti State. However, it was the extraordinary natural beauty of Efon Alaye that stole the show and left an indelible mark on their visit yesterday.
As the delegation walked the winding paths of Mount Golgotha, a mist enveloped the landscape, creating an ethereal atmosphere reminiscent of a dream scene.
The lush green hills stretched majestically in the distance, kissed by the clouds that danced low, obscuring the valley below. It was a surreal moment where the air was crisp and the scent of the damp earth mingled with the sweet, fresh aroma of the surrounding foliage.
Oluwaleto Farms is a hidden gem here in Ekiti that showcases the incredible potential of our state’s natural beauty and agricultural diversity.
In his speech, Mr. Marcel Leijzer’s voice was filled with wonder. “Experiencing this enchanting landscape first-hand reminds us of the immense value of ecotourism, not only for visitors but also for local communities.”
The delegation engaged in discussions with local farmers and entrepreneurs, exploring sustainable agricultural practices that can be integrated into Ekiti’s tourism narrative.
The synergy between tourism and agriculture was palpable as they imagined a future where local produce could become the centerpiece of tourist attractions.
As the delegation stood on the summit of Mount Golgotha, they marveled at the breathtaking panoramic views that emerged as the clouds began to lift, revealing vibrant green valleys interspersed with quaint rural settlements. The view underscored the profound potential of Ekiti’s landscape to captivate tourists from around the world.
Precious Ovahabonosa expressed her passion for the project, saying, “This experience has reinvigorated our mission. The landscapes here are not just beautiful; they hold stories, culture and countless opportunities for tourism that respects and values the natural environment.”
The visit concluded with an exciting hike back down the mountain, the group’s spirits lifted by the picturesque surroundings and the promise of what lies ahead for tourism in Ekiti State. As they prepared to leave Oluwaleto Farms, the fog began to lift completely, revealing a bright and sunny day, a symbol of hope and potential for the tourism industry in Nigeria.
With plans for further consultations and development strategies already in place, the UN Tourism delegation has lived and cherished the memories of walking on clouds, both literally and figuratively. Their experience will undoubtedly be a catalyst for sustainable tourism growth in this enchanting corner of Nigeria.
The United Nations Tourist Delegation left Efon Alaye and proceeded to Okemesi Ekiti for an on-site assessment of the Ekiti Parapo War Museum…….
