Ondo: APC chief slams Aiyedatiwa over LCDA cancellation, urges appeal

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya, has criticized Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for not appealing the cancellation of 33 newly created Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.

Adesanya, Senior Special Assistant to the Deputy Senate President and former Publicity Secretary of Ondo State APC, said the cancellation was a loss to the Aiyedatiwa administration.

“The cancellation of the LCDA is a loss for the Aiyedatiwa administration,” Adesanya said. “Future generations will not be kind to Aiyedatiwa if the government does not appeal the decision,” he said.

Adesanya praised former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for having the political will to create 33 LCDAs. “Since 1999, successive administrations led by Governor Adebayo Adefarati, Governor Olusegun Agagu, and Governor Olusegun Abayomi Mimiko have tried to bring government closer to the grassroots through the creation of more Local Council Development Areas, but to no avail, due to lack of political will ,” Adesanya said. “After 24 years of failed attempts by the previous administration, Akeredolu had the Political Will, together with the State House of Assembly, to establish 33 LCDAs to bring government closer to the people.”

Adesanya expressed surprise that Aiyedatiwa did not appeal the ruling, saying, “Instead of praising him (Akeredolu) and strengthening the LCDA with relevant laws and amendments, I do not want to believe Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is quietly letting 33 LCDAs slip away hands of the people of Ondo State, because future generations will not forgive him.”

He advised Aiyedatiwa to appeal the ruling, saying, “I advise Governor Aiyedatiwa to appeal the ruling of the State High Court nullifying the creation of the 33 LCDAs to revive them and avoid accusations of destroying all the legacies of his boss, Akeredolu, because the various communities have also spent so much money to build Secretariats for the new LCDAs.”

Adesanya’s statement read in part: “The cancellation of the LCDAs is a loss to the Aiyedatiwa administration. Posterity will not be kind to Aiyedatiwa if the government does not appeal the decision. I refuse to believe that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has quietly let 33 LCDAs slip through the fingers of the people of Ondo State.”

Adesanya’s criticism came after an Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure annulled 33 newly created Local Government Development Areas in the state, describing the LCDAs as illegal and unlawful. The court ruling was the result of a suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, challenging the creation of the LCDAs by former governor Akeredolu.

The formation of the Regional Manpower Law was seen as a step to bring the government closer to the people, especially in rural areas. The cancellation of the Regional Manpower Law drew widespread criticism, and many parties asked the government to appeal the decision.
