Gunmen have killed an internally displaced person who was returning from a farm in Tse-Iyo village, Sengev Town Council area, Gwer West Local Government Area of ​​Benue State.

Ibaah Jacob, former director of Agagbe IDP camp in Gwer West Local Government Area, told Daily Trust that the incident occurred on Sunday evening, July 14, 2024, while the victim and other IDPs were returning from their farms.
He said the victim, Ikyumbu Aondowase, 30, was shot by the assailants who attacked him and others along the way, killing him instantly while the others escaped with gunshot wounds.

“Yesterday, July 14, 2024, gunmen successfully attacked and killed Mr Ikyumbu Aondowase, 30. Mr Achin Terzungwe, 45, was one of those seriously injured in the attack and was rushed to Naka Hospital for treatment,” he said.

“Others ran away, according to eyewitness accounts we received. They had taken the path to Tse-Iorbogo while returning from farms unknown to them, the gunmen had already set up an ambush at the wrong point of the road.

“Once they reached the scene, the attackers started shooting at them and Aondoawase was killed immediately. Others like Terzungwe, who was seriously injured, ran away. However, five people among them are still missing.”
