At least one person was killed and two others injured in a gas tanker explosion in the Sangotedo area of Ajah, Lagos State, on Saturday.
Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed this in a statement in Ikeja.
He said: “The agency’s emergency response team, known as Team Shark, immediately arrived at the scene and discovered that a tipper truck without a registration number had hit a petrol tanker from behind, starting a fire.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the immediate cause of the incident was the tipper truck driver who was speeding and careless,” he said.

”The driver of the tipper truck, an adult male, died from injuries in the accident.
“Two adult women suffered minor injuries and were immediately attended to by officers of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).”
The Permanent Secretary added that the fire destroyed four roadside shops and caused extensive damage to property.
He said the contents of the tanker were still trapped inside the vehicle, while recovery operations were still ongoing.
“The LASEMA Shark Team, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and LASAMBUS, managed to limit the spread of the fire, preventing it from affecting neighboring buildings.
“The fire has now been brought under control, while recovery operations are still ongoing. Further information will be provided if necessary,” the permanent secretary said.
