One person was killed and eight others injured in a car accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Monday.
Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the incident in a statement in Ikeja.
He said two Mazda commercial buses with number plates — LND 624 YE and EKY 804 YH were involved in the accident.
LASTMA officials added that the two vehicles collided head-on after engaging in a high-speed reckless pursuit from the Adeniji Adele end of the bridge.

Taofiq said: “The injured were immediately taken to Gbagada General Hospital for emergency medical attention, which was provided by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).
“Police units from Bariga and Alonge Police Stations played a vital role in providing vital security support during the rescue operation, ensuring law and order and expediting efforts to restore normalcy.
“The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reiterates its unwavering commitment to ensuring road safety and urges all motorists to strictly adhere to speed regulations and exercise caution while driving.”
