Onyaka Brentford powers in the EFL Cup

Frank Onyaka played his first 90 minutes of the season when Brentford assured a dramatic victory of the EFL Cup over Aston Villa, progressing after a 4-2 victory in penalties. The game ended 1-1 after normal time.

Harvey Elliott had given Aston Villa leadership in the first half arrest time, but Aaron Hickey responded 12 minutes after the restart with an amazing equalizer to bring the level of Brentford.

Villa pressed for a winner, but Brentford remained firm, with goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson making a last minute detention saving saving to keep the level scores and force penalties.

Valdimarsson proved to be the hero again in the shooting, saving efforts of John McGinn and Matty Cash.

Brentford was perfect from the place, turning the four penalties, while Marco Bizot de Aston Villa failed to make a single salvation.

After the victory, Brentford coach Keith Andrews praised Valdimarsson for his impact:

“The goalkeepers are always involved in the moments, right?

“I said in the long time that errors will occur. I am fine with that. The reaction with which I am really happy, two great salvages in the shooting.”

Andrews also praised Aaron Hickey’s contribution:

“He is a talented player and scoring a goal of that quality was special to him.”

Nigeria’s international, Frank Onyaka, had an impressive exit in the center of the field.

He completed 37 passes, including two in the final third, and created a goal chance.

Defensively, he stood out with the success of 100% Tackle, four ball recoveries and two duels of land won.

Brentford will now change the approach to the Premier League, where they face Fulham on Saturday, September 20.
