Onyaka reflects on growth during the augsburg loan

Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyaka says that FC Augsburg leaves with a feeling of satisfaction.

The 27 -year -old defensive midfielder joined the Bundesliga club on loan last summer in search of a constant play time, after having fought for minutes in Brentford.

Now, while preparing to return to England, Onyaka believes that he has marked the most important box.

“My main objective that will come here was to start each game,” Onyaka said in an interview published on the Official Website of Augsburg.

“I would say that I did it, thanks to the coaches and teammates who believed in my ability to help the team. Yes, I suppose I did my best to help in all the ways I could. I will say that I am partially satisfied because we did not get what we expected.”

Onyaka began 31 of the 34 games of the Bundesliga of Augsburg this season, a drastic improvement of his limited participation in Brentford.

He provided an assistance in a campaign that saw the club finish 12th on the table, nine points of European qualification places.

Although he did not reach his final ambition to help Augsburg to ensure a place in Europe, Onyaka is still grateful for the opportunity.

“I want to thank everyone in the club, they made me feel welcome and at home. If I look back in the season, we did great things; unfortunately we lost some games, but what we wanted to achieve in our minds as a team, we could not do that.

“Great credit for all: players and coaches, I suppose they will continue, and I hope that next season they will achieve it better.”

Reflecting on his time in Germany, Onyaka admitted the initial concerns about adapting to a new environment.

“I have good feelings. As I said when I came here, I thought it would be difficult, but they all made it much easier, so I have a good feeling abandoning this place.”

With his loan spell now, Onyaka returns to Brentford before the 2025/2026 campaign.

Armed with a regular football season in one of the best leagues in Europe, the Nigerian international will hope to turn that experience into a more prominent role in the Premier League club next season.
