Oshiomhole defended Tinubu, said the President was not to blame for economic difficulties

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represented Edo North in the National Assembly, had appealed to the Nigerians to refrain from holding the Ball President Ahmed Tinubu solely responsible for the ongoing economic difficulties in the country, which stated that the government inherited a country that had wrestled with deep financial pressure.

Speaking during interviews at Channels Television Politics Today on Sunday, former Governor of the State Edo and former President of the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) stressed that Nigerian economic misery did not begin with the current government. Instead, he argued, President Tinubu stepped into the office at a time that the economic time had staggered on the verge of destruction.

“The Nigerian economy was under a recession before President Tinubu entered,” Oshiomhole stressed. “Contrary to what some people say, he does not inherit the growing economy. Even the National Statistics Bureau, not only the IMF or the World Bank, has indicated that we are heading for economic collapse.”

Oshiomhole referred to a June 12 Democratic Day lecture delivered by the Governor of the State Anambra, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, at the Nigerian platform, organized by the Nation of the Agreement in Lagos. According to Oshiomhole, Soludo’s comments offer a clearer picture of the economic situation that Tinubu encountered.

“In the lecture, Governor Soludo reminded us that the president came on time to save Nigeria from total financial collapse,” Oshiomhole said. “If a country is already on the threshold of bankruptcy and someone enters to save him, the first task is stabilization before growth. And we have begun to see that growth.”

Senator also attracted attention to the rapid reversal of President Tinubu from the controversial naira re -design policy introduced by the previous government, who had plummeted many Nigerians, especially those in rural areas, into financial uncertainty.

“Before Tinubu was inaugurated, many Nigerians were poor in more than 300 local governments without banking services had their money basically confiscated. The currency they generated hard to get was declared invalid by CBN.

While recognizing the increasing cost of living and widespread difficulties, Oshiomhole stated that the economy was on the path to recovery.

“Yes, there are still serious problems. Low purchase power, and people struggle. But the recovery is active. Nigeria is in the process. This can be faster, but no one can say that the situation remains static since Tinubu takes positions,” he said.
