Osimhen responds to Super Eagles coach Finidi George: You can’t tarnish my name

Nigeria senior national team top forward Victor Osimhen has responded to reports that the recently replaced Nigeria senior national team coach Finidi George questioned his commitment to the team.

Finidi, who was demoted from his position as coach after the matches against South Africa and Benin Republic, where they drew 1-1 before losing 2-1 to the aforementioned countries respectively, submitted his resignation today.

The coach is said to have told sources close to him that the Napoli striker did not show enough commitment to play in either match. Osimhen did not take it lightly and responded with a strong tirade on his page on the social media platform Instagram.

“The Super Eagles are not my father’s, if this will make me stop playing for the Super Eagles, no problem. I called Finidi George when he was appointed and said: let’s do great things together.

“I call my teammates before the game to cheer them up, but after two bad games, everyone blames me because I wasn’t even part of the team.”

“I got injured, in the last minute of our last game, I had an ankle injury that was confirmed by an MRI.

I knew things like this would happen, I called Finidi immediately after meeting with the doctor and we both spoke to Finidi.

I will not allow any disrespect from anyone, I will not allow that stain from anyone.

“I always play my heart out for Nigeria.”

“I asked Finidi George to allow me to stay with the players in the camp, but Finidi asked me not to bother staying with my family.

Now, after two bad games, everyone blames me.

“I know how many injuries I have played with Nigeria and I played with all my heart, but after two bad games, everyone attacks me.”
