Political quarrels have erupted in Osun’s state when the Congress of all Progressive (APC) accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of leaving his official task and leaving the country for more than two weeks without notice or officially handed over power to his representatives.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesman, Kola Olabati, Osun APC described Adeleke’s absence that was not announced as “abnormal” and raised concerns over the lack of transparency around which had run the country in its absence.
“As governor of all people and we as parties need to know the existence of the governor and who have held the fort for him during his absence from the country for the past two weeks,” the statement said.
The party also questioned whether the constitutional protocol had been followed. “Should the Governor properly send power to his representative, who constitutionally covered up temporarily entering the position of his school principal in his absence?” it asked.
He added that Adeleke reportedly disappeared shortly after alleged efforts to fail to defect to APC.
“The question raised in a vanished tone in several public places, in a commercial bus and by motorcyclists and their passengers in the state is: where is the existence of their governor so far?” APC records.
In a quick rebuttal, Olawale Rasheed, a spokesman for Governor Adeleke, confirmed that the governor had traveled to the United States to attend his niece’s marriage, an international famous music artist David Adeleke, known as Davido.

“Governor Adeleke left Nigeria to the United States through a private jet of the family a few days ago for a marriage of global music icons, his beloved niece, David Adeleke,” explained Rasheed.
He rejected APC accusations as political damage and expanded the Olive Branch – in the form of invitations for marriage. “Your Majesty expands the invitation to the opposition party to attend the event and share in the excitement of the event with the Adeleke family. Those who cannot attend can join virtual,” Rasheed added.
Overcoming concerns about government during the absence of Adeleke, Rasheed assured that Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, effectively oversees state affairs. “The governor continues to communicate with his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, who oversees government activities,” he said.
He also stressed that this trip was short and not an official vacation. “In addition, from November 2022 to the present, the governor has not yet gone on an official vacation. For the current trip, the governor has chosen to return to make it short to continue to attend important state functions,” Rasheed said.
The exchange highlighted the ongoing political tension in Osun, with the opponents of the governor to seize his absence, while his office tried to reduce criticism as unreasonable and politically motivated.
