Otti ensured the release of Nnamdi Kanu immediately after meeting with President Tinubu

The Governor of the State of Abia, Dr. Alex Otti, has stated optimism that Nnamdi Kanu, a leader who was detained from the native Biafra (IPOB), would soon be released from detention.

Speaking to a journalist at the President’s villa in Abuja on Friday after the meeting with the Tinubu Bola President, Otti said the discussion was ongoing with the president to secure Kanu’s freedom.

“I can convince you that I am involved with Mr. President. He tends to be for it, and I am sure that in a not far time, Nnamdi Kanu will regain his freedom,” Otti said.

The governor, who recorded his long -standing relationship with Tinubu, added, “Mr. President and I have been friends for decades.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of Work, David Umahi, urged the southeast population to remain peaceful and obedient to the law as an effort to secure the release of Kanu to continue.

“I begged the people in the southeast to unite and remain obedient to the law. As your brother, I have heard a message to Mr. President and comments from the Governor of Otti,” Umahi said.

He revealed that the Southeast Governor, in collaboration with members of parliament and Federal Minister from the region, worked for political resolution for the Kanu case.

“I am sure that, given the president’s love for southeast, peaceful resolution will soon be achieved,” Umahi added, urged the region to recognize the inclusive approach to governance.

Kanu has been in custody of the State Service Department (DSS) since June 2021, after extradition from Kenya. He faced accusations related to terrorism.

His ongoing detention has sparked repeated calls for its liberation from political, religious, and traditional leaders in the southeast, amid an increasing concern about his deteriorating health.

Despite some applications by his legal team, the court consistently refused to give him a guarantee or allow him to seek medical treatment outside of DSS detention.
