“Our way of saying thanks”: OKPEBHOLO increases the minimum salary for Edo workers


The governor of the state Edo Mondoy Okpebholo has increased the minimum wage for state workers from N70,000 to N75,000 to further improve their standard of living.

Okpebholo announced him during his May speech at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, the capital of the Edo state, Thursday 1 May 2025.

The governor, while appreciating the contributions of Edo workers to the development of the state, said that his administration would always seek ways to improve the well -being of Edo workers.

He said: “Today I am proud to announce that our administration has approved a new minimum wages of N75,000 per month for all Edo workers.

“It is our way of saying thanks, Edo workers. We believe that this really does the difference and we count on your dedication to a better Edo.

“Since it came into office, my administration has given priority to the well -being of workers.

“An initial action was the conversion of over 1,000 occasional workers, including detergents, in permanent employees of the civil service.”

Okpebholo revealed that his administration had also hired 500 teachers, adding that he was examining over 3,000 occasional teachers for full employment.

“We have also approved the recruitment of 450 clinical and non -clinical and non -clinical hospital staff 126 contractual workers at the Specialized Hospital of the Edo State for Stability and Growth,” said the Governor.

Okpebholo also revealed that his administration had canceled salary backgrounds due to the Edo Polytechnic staff.

Okpebholo reiterated the dedication of his administration to promote salary and pension payments, structured hires, workers’ well -being and professional development

Speaking, the president of the NLC acting in the state of Edo, his partner Bernard Egwekhide, praised Okpebholo for praised policies that facilitate the difficulties experienced by workers and retirees throughout the state.

He said: “Within six months from the assignment, you have performed in an excellent way for Edo workers. Your results exceed our expectations and show a real commitment to the needs of workers

“We also thank President Bola Tinubu for supporting Edo’s state. The first overpass is under construction and a second has already been approved for development.”
