Overland returns to Warri, offers Lagos, Abuja Connections

One of the national airlines of Nigeria, Overland Airways, took up flight operations in Warri, in the state of the delta.

The airline, which recommended scheduled flights to Osubi airport of Warri, Tuesday, operated with an Embraer 175 reaction plane that left Murtala Muhammed airport in Lagos at 8:17 and landed at Osubi airport at 8:58.

By contacting the journalists of Warri, the operational director of the airline, Adneronke Emmanuel-James, said that the resumption of flight would not be only of economic importance, but will also support the social ties among the people of the Delta whose intention includes the connection to other parts of Nigeria.

Emmanuel-James said the passengers could perfectly connect from Warri to other destinations of all the North and South-West on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

He said: “Over the years, we have shown that the aviation is a growth catalyst and we are able to move businessmen to all states and throughout Nigeria. This service that we are offering today are managing Lagos in Warri, Warri in Abuja, Abuja in Warri and Warri in Lagos.

“We are starting with three weekly flights. We start in Lagos at 8.15 in the morning and we leave for Abuja from Warri at 9.25. While Abuja in Ilorin will leave at 11.05 and Warri in Lagos at 12.30. We hope that in the coming weeks we will be able to manage daily flights on Warri and outside Warri.

“We are back with our brand new E175 E175 aircraft that presents the premium and Economic class cabin.

For its part, the airport manager, Mr. Winston Egwuatu, complained that the airport track prevented some airlines from flying in the structure, thus affecting passenger traffic.

Egwuatu, however, expressed joy that the passengers traveling from Warri now could connect to Lagos and Abuja seamlessly without having to go through ASABA or Benin.

The director of the airport, which also stated that the Airospace Development Minister, Festus Keyamo, started the plans to expand the airport track, promised that all the infrastructures necessary for Overland would be provided to operate without continuity inside and outside the airport.

He said: “The size of the track has kept several airlines from the airport. The track, which is 2.1 kilometers long, has a setback of 150 meters to both ends, thus reducing the landing space available at 1.8 kilometers. This forced the airlines to operate with smaller aeronations and limit the number of Airlines that can fly to the airport.”
