Oyebanji orders integrity test at NYSC Ekiti Camp building

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has instructed the state Special Projects Bureau to conduct a thorough integrity test of all structures within the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp located at Ise/Orun Emure Ekiti.

The directive was issued during a meeting in Ado Ekiti on Monday, where Governor Oyebanji met with members of the NYSC Governing Council, led by the Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Gold Adedayo.

The decision was made following an incident in which a bathroom wall collapsed, resulting in injuries to two corps members.

Governor Oyebanji stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of NYSC members by assessing the structural integrity of the camp buildings.

Following the incident, the governor had earlier ordered the immediate construction of 45 toilet and bathroom units inside the camp, with construction work starting on Monday. He also ordered the state electricity board to install solar-powered electricity in the camp.

Governor Oyebanji said, “The first step we are taking is to conduct a thorough integrity test on all buildings in the camp. The results will inform our decision to upgrade the camp facilities to improve living conditions.”

He stressed the urgency of improving infrastructure in the NYSC camp, and promised continued support from his administration to improve facilities and welfare for corps members.

Responding to this, the NYSC State Coordinator, Alhaji Riko Shuaibu, expressed his gratitude for the governor’s commitment to safety and welfare,

Governor Oyebanji assured swift action. He said, “Regarding your request, immediate steps will be taken. Solar lights will be installed, and I will instruct the electricity team to assess and implement it without delay.”

The visit of the NYSC Governing Council was aimed at highlighting the challenges faced in the camp and seeking intervention from the state government to address them effectively.
