Constitutional lawyers and human rights advocates, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), have raised the red flag for what he described as Nigeria who is worrying towards the country of one party, warning that the trend, if not checked, can open the way for full dictatorship.
Speaking during an interview at Channels Television Affairs Print Hard Copy Program on Saturday, Ozekhome voiced strong concern about the current political climate under the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He described the environment that applies as one marked by excessive syccians and political ideology erosion among elected officials.
“What we see is bootlicking at the highest level,” Ozekhome said. He noted an increase in the frequency with which politicians cross the party line, not based on principles or ideologies, but for personal gain. “This is like beans, akara, and moi-moi, they are the same,” his teacher, equating political parties with identical dishes made of the same material, has no different values or directions.

Ozekhome argues that such political fluidity is not only a symptom of a weak ideological commitment, but also a serious threat to a democratic government. He warned that the political landscape that was romogenized could lead to authoritarianism. “In a state of one party, the dictatorship ruled the highest,” he warned. “The national assembly will be bagged, the judiciary will be bagged, and everyone will only echo ‘yes, yes, yes.'”
The lawyer emphasized that democracy flourished in opposition, differences of opinion, and ideological variations, and warned that the country must reject the temptation to normalize the system in which power remains unmatched and where institutions are subject to.
