Paralympics 2024: Folashade Oluwafemiayo wins gold and sets a new world record

Nigeria’s Folashade Oluwafemiayo claimed a gold medal in the women’s 86kg Para-Powerlifting event at the 2024 Paralympic Games, setting a new world record in the process.

Oluwafemiayo, the captain of the Nigerian team, made history by becoming the first para-athlete to lift 167kg, surpassing her previous world record of 165kg.

Her remarkable performance not only earned her the top spot on the podium, but also demonstrated her stamina and determination by adding 2kg to the existing record.

With this victory, Oluwafemiayo’s gold brings Nigeria’s total medal haul at the Paralympic Games to seven.
