Paralympics 2024: Onyinyechi Mark wins Nigeria’s first gold and sets multiple world records

Onyinyechi Mark made history on Friday by securing Nigeria’s first gold medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Competing in the women’s para-powerlifting category up to 61kg, Mark delivered an impressive performance, setting multiple world records along the way.

He opened his campaign with a lift of 140kg, followed by an impressive 145kg on his second attempt.

In his third lift, he lifted 147 kg, breaking his own world record and winning the gold medal.

Mark later managed to lift 150kg on his final attempt, setting another world record.

China’s Jianjin Cui took the silver medal with a lift of 140kg, while Mexico’s Amalia Pérez Vázquez took bronze with a lift of 135kg.

Onyinye Mark’s historic victory has added to Nigeria’s two medal haul at the 2024 Paralympic Games.
