
As the Paris 2024 Olympic Games enters its twelfth day, expectations are high for Team Nigeria, which is set to showcase its talent in several sports.
On Wednesday, August 7, Nigerian athletes will compete in athletics, wrestling, cycling and basketball, each aiming to make their mark on this prestigious world stage.

The highlight of the day is the quarter-final match between Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who will take on the mighty USA team. This thrilling encounter promises to be a very exciting one as D’Tigress has shown remarkable tenacity throughout the tournament.
Coach Rena Wakama expressed confidence in her team’s ability to compete at the highest level. “We have prepared rigorously for this moment and I believe in the abilities and resilience of these athletes,” she said.
In athletics, the queen of the track will be Oluwatobiloba Amusan, who will compete in the first heat of the women’s 100m hurdles. Having come close to a medal in previous competitions, Amusan is determined to secure her first Olympic medal in Paris.
With his trademark speed and agility, he will aim to dominate his heat and advance to the final. Fellow athlete Samuel Ogazi will also be in action, competing in the men’s 400m final, where he will be looking to secure a medal for Nigeria.
The athletics programme for the day is packed, with several promising events at the Stade de France. Highlights include Edose Ibadin in the first round of the men’s 800m at 10:55am and Ezekiel Nathaniel in the semi-final of the men’s 400m hurdles at 6:35pm. Other notable competitors include Udodi Chudi Onwuzurike in the semi-final of the men’s 200m and Ella Onojuvwevwo in the semi-final of the women’s 400m later in the evening.
Wrestling fans will not be disappointed either as Christianah Tolulope Ogunsanya will take to the mat at the Champ-de-Mars Arena for the 1/8 final of the women’s 53kg category.
Cycling fans will be able to enjoy the performance of Ese Ukpeseraye in the first round of the Women’s Keirin at the Vélodrome de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, which will add to the excitement of the day.
With such a promising line-up, Team Nigeria is ready to seize the moment, aiming for glory and pride at the 2024 Olympics. The nation is watching with bated breath, hoping for triumphs that will resonate far beyond the Paris Games.
