The Nigerian Tigress will face the United States in the quarter-finals of the women’s basketball event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The AfroBasket champions secured Nigeria’s historic first appearance in the quarterfinals of the Olympic basketball tournament by defeating Canada 79-70 in their final group game on Sunday.
It is also the first time that an African team, male or female, has reached the quarter-finals.
D’Tigress are scheduled to face the defending champions and currently the top-ranked team in the world, on August 7 at 9:30 pm (8:30 pm Nigerian time).
This match will be the second time the two teams have met at the Olympic Games.
At the Tokyo Olympics, D’Tigress lost to the Americans by 9 points in their first group match.

The teams also met in the 2024 Olympic qualifiers, where Nigeria suffered a heavy defeat.
In other quarter-finals, Serbia will play Australia, Spain will face Belgium and France will face Germany.
