Paris 2024: Nigeria to take part in five events on Friday as race walk kicks off athletics at Paris 2024 Olympics

At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, two events were decided: the gold medals in the men’s and women’s 20 km race walk were won by Brian Pintado of Ecuador and Yang Jiayu of China, respectively.

This effectively sets the tone for many other historic moments expected in the track and field events of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, when Athletics gets underway on Thursday.

The field and courts will host more events on Friday, with some 12 Nigerians taking part in 5 events in Paris on Friday.

Temitope Adeshina, Nigeria’s only female high jumper at the Olympics, will begin her campaign in the event in the Group B preliminary round and begin her Olympic journey at 9:15am.

The entire women’s 100m heats 1, 2, 3 and 4 will then take place, with Tima Godbless and Chukwuma Rosemary waving the Nigerian flag from 9:35am.

At 5:15 pm, the duo of Ashley Anumba and Onyekwere Chioma will begin their Olympic campaign in the preliminary round of women’s debate, taking on Group A and Group B respectively.

Nigeria’s mixed relay team will be in action at 6:22 pm Ellah Onojuvwevwo, Esther Ello, Isreal Okon, Omolara Ogunmakinju, Patience Okon George, Sikiru Adeyemi and Sikiru Adeyemi will get another chance to impress on the tracks.

And finally at 19:10, Enekwechi Chukwuebuka will have another in the men’s shot put at the Olympic Games.

Results have been mixed so far for Team Nigeria at the Paris 2024 Olympics, but there are high expectations that athletics will bring home medals for Nigeria as events come in quick succession starting this weekend.
