Speaking to Brila.net, Soetan highlighted the extensive preparations and successful participation of Nigerian athletes in several high-level competitions leading up to the Olympics.
“The athletes are ready. They must have been ready even to get their automatic qualifiers. The standard set was so high that in some events, only 12 in the world met the automatic qualification standard, leaving the remaining spot for the qualification quota,” Soetan explained.
He noted that Nigerian athletes have been consistent in their performance at high-ranking competitions, securing multiple spots through automatic and ranking-based qualifications.
“Those who compete consistently in high-ranking competitions. Those who are who and who will get those spots. And we have a couple of athletes, up to 16 of them choosing automatic qualifiers, and some with double qualification.
“If you ask me if we are ready, I think those athletes are ready,” he added.
