From the start, Mariam Bolaji took control of the court, using her agility and strategic play to keep Vinot on the defensive.

In the first game, Bolaji quickly established his dominance and finished with a resounding 21-8 victory. Despite Vinot’s attempts to regroup, the second game followed a similar pattern and Bolaji claimed a 21-14 victory to close out the match.

This victory follows her earlier triumph against India’s Mandeep Kaur, where she also won in straight sets, 21-8, 21-14. Bolaji’s second win in the group stage further cements her position as a strong contender in the SL3 category, where athletes with standing or lower limb disabilities compete.

Bolaji’s success in Paris is a testament to his dedication and the growth of para-badminton in Nigeria.

“It has been a journey of hard work and perseverance. I am grateful for the support and the opportunity to represent my country on such a big stage,” Bolaji said after her victory.

Despite the defeat, Céline Vinot showed resilience and sportsmanship, acknowledging the challenges of facing a top-level opponent like Bolaji. “Playing against Mariam was tough, but it is an experience that motivates me to work harder in my training,” said Vinot.

As the Paralympics continue, all eyes will be on Bolaji as he closes in on a possible medal, with hopes high that he will bring home a victory for Nigeria.
