Nigeria’s team will miss out on a podium spot in the women’s 100m event at the Paris 2024 Olympics after Rosemary Chukwuma, their only representative in the semi-finals, failed to secure a place in the medal race.


Chukwuma finished last in her semi-final heat, clocking a time of 11.39 seconds.

Despite a good start, Chukwuma’s performance declined as the race progressed.

The race was won by Lucia Julien Alfred, who crossed the finish line in 10.84 seconds.

American Sha’Carri Richardson took second place in automatic qualification with a time of 10.89 seconds, while Gambia’s Gina Bass Bittaye finished third in 11.10 seconds.

In other news, Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has withdrawn from the women’s 100m competition, leaving the field open for new champions to emerge.
