Party Registration: Inec Cleaning Ada, ANC, PFP, 11 other associations

The Independent National Election Commission (Inec) said on Thursday that 14 out of 171 associations seeking registration as a political party had been cleaned to continue to the next stage of their application.

Commissioner and Chair of the National Inec, the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Oluumekun, revealed this in a statement after a regular commission meeting on Thursday in Abuja.

He said 157 associations failed to meet registration requirements.

The associations that meet the requirements are the African Transformation Party (ATP), all Democratic Alliances (existing), and Advance Nigeria Congress (ANC).

Others are the Social Party of Abundance (ASP), the African Alliance Party (AAP), the Democratic Citizen of the Alliance (CDA) and the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA).

The rest are the grassroots (GRIP), Green Future Party (GFP), the Liberation People (LPP), the National Democratic Party (NDP), and the National Reform Party (NRP), the Patriotic People’s Alliance (PPA), and the Peoples Freedom (PFP) (PFP).

Olumekun noted that the meeting considered the Committee’s report on the review of the Intention Letter from the Association seeking registration as a political party.

According to him, each of the 171 requests was assessed based on Prima Facie compliance with the provisions of Article 222 of the Constitution of the Republic of Federal Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

He added that the association was also assessed in compliance with section 79 (1, 2, and 4) of the 2022 Election Law and Clause 2 (I and II) of the Regulations and Guidelines for Commission for Political Parties 2022.

“From the total number of applications received, 14 associations have met the requirements to continue to the next stage, while 157 has not.

“The commission must officially communicate decisions that arise from today’s meeting to all associations in the next 24 hours.

“Meanwhile, a list of 14 pre-qualification associations has been published on our website and other official platforms for public information,” said the National Commissioner.
