The former Super Eagles striker and the winner of the 2013 African Nations Cup (AFCON), Brown Ideye (Mon), called Enyimba FC for unpaid match bonuses last season.
Ideye, who spent the second half of the 2024/25 NPFL season with the people’s elephant, expressed his frustration on social networks, demanding that the club deal with all the outstanding payments that his teammates already owe him.
“Why do I get money, I shouldn’t ask for what I work for?” He wrote in X (previously Twitter). “Please, pay me and match bond players last season. The season ended in May, so far nothing. The new season will start next month.”
The publication, which since then has gone viral, has caused a conversation about the well -being of the players in the Nigeria Professional Soccer League, particularly in the best clubs such as Enyimba.
Enyimba FC is currently chaired by the Nigerian football legend Kanu Nwankwo, who assumed the role with high expectations, given his illustrious career as a player in Europe. However, Ideye’s outburst adds to the growing concerns that the financial and administrative challenges of the club are far from finishing.
Many fans and interested parties now question whether the club’s leadership is doing enough to protect the rights of players and comply with contractual obligations, especially under the surveillance of someone who once experienced football at the highest level.
