PDP confirms Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso held talks on how to sack Tinubu in 2027

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Abdullahi, said on Monday that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and two other opposition figures in the country were holding merger talks ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Other major opposition figures are Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and his New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) counterpart Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Abdullahi, who appeared on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme, disclosed that the party was working hard to bring back Obi, Kwankwaso, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and others to the party.

He expressed optimism that politicians would set aside personal interests and form a formidable alliance to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

The spokesman also blamed the national leadership led by Iyorchia Ayu for the party’s defeat in the 2023 elections.

Abdullahi said: β€œIf the past PDP leadership had managed the conflict well, top politicians like former governor Nyesom Wike, Kwankwaso and Obi would have remained full members of our party and we would have defeated Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last election.

β€œWe have lost Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, all these people, imagine if they were in the party, we would have won the election.

β€œThis APC said they defeated us by over a million votes, just one name that I mentioned can cover that deficit for us and we will be in power today and surely Nigerians will not be faced with despair and sadness in this country.

β€œDiscussions will be held to bring back the people I mentioned earlier. You will see Peter Obi discussing with Atiku, you will see Peter Obi meeting with (Nasir) El-Rufai. Party management is a very difficult thing and we are doing our best in the difficulties we are facing. Rest assured, there is light at the end of the tunnel. We have learned the hard way.”

On possible candidates to face President Tinubu in 2027, the PDP spokesman added: β€œOne will give in to the other, then we will have a direction.

“Our concern as a party and the people I have mentioned is to ensure that we rescue Nigerians from this despair and hopelessness, between the disease of hunger and the frightening insecurity in this country. You can see the ignorance and incompetence on the part of these people in running this country.

“Let me reiterate: Peter Obi is qualified; he can aspire and we will support him if he gets the ticket. Atiku is qualified and if he gets the ticket, we will support him and give him the support he needs to rescue Nigerians from this situation.”
