PDP demands a suspended recovery of the Chairman of the Edo Local Council

The Democratic People’s Party (PDP) in the Edo state on Wednesday urged the state government to comply with a court decision that returned the elected local government chairman in the state.

Chairperson of the PDP Guard Committee in the State, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, made a call at a press conference in Benin City.

He said the abolition of the chairman had influenced governance at the grassroots level.

Aziegbemi said the high court had begun to give a decision that supported the legislation of the legislation legally elected which illegally was issued from the office.

He quoted the Akoko-Edo chairman case, Mr. Tajudeen Alade, who was restored by the court but could not return to his office.

According to Aziegbemi, the court found that the transfer violated part 19 of the law of the Edo Regional Government and did not have compliance with the legal process.

He added that the court also decided that Alade was not given a fair trial, thus canceling his transfer and ordered his direct recovery to the office.

Judge Om Obayuwana from the State High Court last week delivered another decision that returned the Chairman of the West Etsako, Zibiri Marvelous, and Deputy Chairman Benji Ojietu.

“The court states that the impeachment process against them is zero and canceled, quoting non -compliance with part 19 of the law of the Regional Government of Edo, 2000, as amended.

“We praise the justice for enforcing constitutional principles. It is time for the Edo government to stop violating the law and a respected court decision,” said the Chairperson of the PDP.

He urged the government to allow the chairman who was restored back to their office and continued the tasks they chose by the people.

The Governor of Okpebholo in December last year suspected the chairman of the 18 regional regions of the State Government for refusing to submit their LGA financial records to the state government.
