PDP Govs rejected 2027 Merger Talks, demanding security improvements

The elected governor on the Democratic Party (PDP) platform of the people has categorized as categorizing all possible mergers with other political parties ahead of the 2027 general election.

The forum also expressed his deep concern over the increasing security crisis in Nigeria, quoting a new attack in several states.

Bala Mohammed, Governor of the State of Bauchi and Chairperson of the PDP Governor Forum, conveyed the attitude of the group after their 2025/4th meeting in Ibadan, State of Oyo. “The forum has decided that PDP will not join the coalition or merged any,” he said.

However, Mohammed clarified that PDP, as the main opposition party, remained open to welcome individuals, parties, or groups who were willing to join their ranking to challenge the current administration in 2027.

“However, PDP, as the main opposition party, welcomed each party, person or group who was willing to join the aim of wrestling power and named good leadership in 2027,” he said.

Communike further discusses the ongoing leadership disputes in the party, which stated, “The forum repeats its position taken in Asaba about the problem of the National Secretary of the Party, but after the Supreme Court’s decision, the forum decided to recommend that the Deputy Secretary of the South as the National Secretary, who was waiting for the nomination and ratified the substantive secretary from the southern East Zone by Inec at the National Meeting, the meeting.

The governors also voiced their strong opposition to the emergency declaration in the river state, stating, “The forum reiterated our collective determination to prevent our constitutional democracy rape so that the decision approaches the Supreme Court to give clear countries with the interpretation of the law on the unwanted countries.

Overcoming a deteriorating security situation, the Governor demands a revised national security strategy that empowering the state government to build an effective defense mechanism.

The forum also announced the formation of the Main Committees: “Zoning Committee: Governor Doubleye Self-Chairperson; Governor Dauda Lawal-Deputy Chairperson and Governor Caleb Mutfwang-Sekretari, while the National Convention Committee has the Governor and Chair of the Governor.

The governor declared their award to Governor Seyi Makinde and Oyo states for their hospitality.

Participants including National Chairperson of PDP Umar Damagum, and Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Umar Fintiri (Adamawa), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Agbu Cephas (Taraba), Dauda Lawalan (Enugara), AGBU CEPHAS (TARABA), DAUDA LAWA, ENO (ENUMA) Ibom, represented by his deputy), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta, represented by his deputy), and Chairman of the State PDP Oyo Wasiu Adeleke.
