PDP revealed 57 leadership candidates for Lagos Local Polling Council

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State on Wednesday launched 57 of its leadership and 376 council candidates for the July 12 local government election in the state.

The party also gave a flag to the candidates at the event held at the Ikoyi Party Head’s Office, Head of Bode George.

In his words at the ceremony, George, a former Deputy Chairperson of the PDP, urged candidates to work hard to convince voters to choose parties at the grassroots level.

He said PDP would be prevented from field candidates for the election if it was not for his efforts and a visit to the Lagos State Independent Election Commission (LASEEC).

He said: “The essence of today is revealing our candidates to convince voters that the rumors that PDP have collapsed made by several people, is the most irresponsible and total lies.

“How can the Iroko political tree die? The only political tree in Nigeria today is PDP. I feel sorry for those who defected to other parties.

“I begged the voters to choose PDP. What has been done by APC to guarantee recognition again, compared to what PDP Nigeria offers and wants to offer Lagos?”

PDP chiefs urged candidates to be brave and strong in their campaigns in all wards and local government regions in the state.

George added: “For those of you who fight, be brave. When you go campaigning, don’t be afraid to tell the truth to voters.

“Wrestling power to care for people and not gather wealth for yourself.

“You must be a servant leader, wash the hands and feet of students (people) like Jesus did. You must serve and not be served.

“It is very sad that today some special people live in high-rise buildings while millions of people are hungry, suffer, and live in poverty.

“Please, strong enough to convince voters, I will join you as much as possible to campaign for our people. Let your campaign vibrations wake Lagos.”

The former Military Governor of Ondo State condemned the current economic and security challenges in the country and urged the government to do more for the Nigerians.

He stressed that the government’s main responsibility remains the security and welfare of the people.

He also urged the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) and the Lagos State Independent Election Commission (LASEEC) to always carry out their duties carefully.

In the crisis that shook the PDP, George, who noted that there was no organization without challenges, said that the crisis would soon be resolved.
