The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to appear before a disciplinary committee in response to allegations of anti-party activities.

Ibrahim Abdullahi, PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, disclosed this on Monday while appearing on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

Abdullahi explained that Wike had been formally invited to face the Tom Ikimi-led PDP disciplinary committee, which was constituted by the party’s National Working Committee.

β€œWe formed two committees three weeks ago: one for reconciliation and one for discipline,” Abdullahi said. β€œNyesom Wike was among those summoned by the disciplinary committee, chaired by Chief Tom Ikimi. The committee will look into issues related to anti-party activities. We have received several petitions about sabotage of the party during the primaries and after. Complaints against Wike and other members have been collated and submitted to the committee.”

He added that some party members felt Wike’s continued prominence in the PDP was uncalled for and had voiced their concerns to the party leadership.

Abdullahi also criticized Wike’s recent remarks about “igniting fire in their states” regarding PDP governors. “Wike should be more careful with his words; that is a very disappointing statement. We did not expect him to say that, and frankly, we do not support it,” Abdullahi said.

The announcement comes days after Wike expressed satisfaction with his role in Bola Tinubu’s administration, despite ongoing criticism. During the PDP Congress in Port Harcourt, Wike threatened to create political chaos in the home states of PDP governors who interfered in the party’s South-South affairs and told critics of his position in Tinubu’s administration to β€œgo and hug that transformer.”
