The Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo, has said the state needs continuity to progress and prosper.
Speaking on Thursday at the PDP campaign in Fugar, Etsako Central Local Government Area and Agbede, Etsako West Local Government Area, Ighodalo stressed that poverty eradication, establishment of good governance and wealth creation would be the major objectives of his administration, among other programmes.
He commended the Godwin Obaseki-led administration for the improvements made in the education system, workers’ welfare, infrastructure, healthcare and other aspects, and promised to continue on with the improvements already made.
He promised to eradicate poverty, create wealth and establish good governance.
“What Edo needs is continuity for progress and prosperity. My running mate, Osarodion Ogie and I will never disappoint if voted into power.
“My charge to all of you is to come out en masse on election day and vote for the PDP. I promise to eradicate poverty, create wealth and establish good governance,” he said.
Obaseki, who expressed satisfaction over the massive turnout, commended the citizens for showing up for the continuous voter registration and assured that Ighodalo would exploit the gas pipeline that passes through the area for power generation.
“I have never seen this kind of crowd in all the places we have visited. I want to thank you all for this massive turnout.
“They say Etsako Central is one of the smallest local governments in the state, but you still have this big crowd.
โI also commended you for intervening in the ongoing voter registration exercise in the state, thereby increasing the voting strength of Etsako Central.
โThere is a gas pipeline passing through Etsako Central and Ighodalo plans to use the gas to generate electricity for the people. He is a โmaster plannerโ and has the best plans to take Edo State further towards progress and prosperity,โ the governor said.
Mike Oghiadomhe, former chief of staff to former President Goodluck Jonathan, said the Obaseki-led administration had done good for the people and in particular, the people of Etsako Central.
He thanked Obaseki for choosing Ighodalo as his successor, describing the PDP candidate as a man with a proven track record.
โThe people of Etsako Central Local Government are fully behind Asue Ighodalo and will vote en masse for the party and defend their vote,โ he said.
Another leader of the group, Pascal Ugbome, described the combination of Ighodalo and Ogie as a perfect match, capable of taking Edo to greater heights.”
Asue/Ogie Campaign Council Director General Matthew Iduoriyekemwen and the party’s state chairman Tony Aziegbemi have called on the people to turn out en masse to vote for the PDP on September 21.
During the campaign, hundreds of APC loyalists defected to the PDP, pledging allegiance to the new party.
