Chairperson of the PDP Guard Committee in the State, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, who made a call in a statement in the city of Benin, urged the holder of public offices to receive criticism.

Aziegbemi reacts to the Attorney General and the State Commissioner, Samson Osagie’s commemoration to one ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor for a social media post that is considered to slander to the Governor of Monday Okpebholo.

Commissioner, in a statement, accused Ifaluyi-Esibor for defamation of criminal names and threatening legal action unless public apologies were issued within 24 hours.

He demanded revocation in all social media platforms and publications in at least one national newspaper.

However, the PDP chief described Osagie’s statement as an effort to hamper differences of opinion, suppress opposition, and intimidate citizens who criticized the Okpebholo government.

He said: “Osagie cannot legally silenced Edo citizens or limit their right to comment on government performance and leadership.

“IFALALUYI-ISIBOR only states the truth. His criticism reflects the position of PDP and explained the failure of the current government.

“The state of Edo appears to be dysfunctional. The absence of the governor which often causes extensive regression in all major sectors, including education, health care, economy, and security.

“Ogbeide’s statement reflects the duties of citizens in democracy to demand accountability. The reaction of the Edo government is irrational and very unmocmoration.

“Edo is part of a democratic country. Government cannot develop with fear, jokes, or alternative views.

“Ironically, Osagie did not threaten legal action when he was openly suspended on charges of serious financial and administrative violations.”
