PDP’s Ortom Backs Southern President in 2027, praising Tinubu Govt

The former Governor of the Democratic Party Chief (PDP) of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has expressed unwavering support for the South President in 2027, insisting that the South must be allowed to complete the constitutional two -period cycle before the consideration of the northern candidate.

Speaking during Parley Media in Makurdi on Thursday, Ortom, a member of the PDP Supervisory Board, was firmly in his attitude. “To this day, I, Ortom, believe in the South President. Even if my party (PDP) produces candidates for the President in 2027, candidates must be from the south. The south must be allowed to complete eight years,” he said.

“So, for me, I do not support the northern candidate,” ** he added.

Ortom, while reaffirming his commitment to the PDP, away from the political coalition that emerged, emphasizing his loyalty to the party that led him to the national prominent.

“I remain a member and leader of the people’s Democratic Party; I even my party council members and I do not believe in the coalition. But where there is a need for strategic partnerships, you will see me there,” he said.

In a surprising twist, the former governor gave praise to the President of Bola Tinubu, especially for what he called a brave economic reform that began to produce positive effects.

“The Tinubu government is fine; he ensures that the rule of law applies, and this is good for our country,” Ortom said.

He praised the elimination of fuel subsidies, showing that it had increased the allocation of income to the state, increasing their capacity to meet financial obligations.

“The oil industry has become a place where some clicks suck our commercials, but with the removal of subsidies, there are a lot of money in all states,” he said.

Ortom considering the President’s guarantee during his visit to Benue at the peak of the murder of violence in Yelwata.

“The President even stated that this was during his visit to Benue at the peak of our murder in Yelwata, where he said that no country said it did not have money to pay salaries,” Ortom told.

He also praised the ongoing tax reform, describing them as a progressive step towards long -term economic sustainability.

However, Ortom did not withstand his criticism of the government of the former President of Muhammadu Buhari, accused him of leading Nigeria into the spiral down.

“The Buhari government took the country from top to bottom,” he said frankly.

With his comments, Ortom became one of the first main northern political figures in the PDP to openly reject the northern presidency in 2027 and vice versa threw his weight behind the southern, has the potential to generate a new debate in the party ranks and broader political landscapes.
