Pengassan Grounds NNPC LTD NUPRC, NMDPRA on Dangote Refinery Mass Sack

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (Pengassan) on Monday Sealed off the Headquarters of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd).

The head of the NMDPRA Branch, Kawan Tony Iziogba, said that the strike was triggered by alleged anti-employment practices in Dangote Refinery, accused the company to fire more than 800 workers for joining a trade union.

He said that until the dangote refinery staff were called back to their duties, the strike would continue.

“This happens with 100 percent compliance, we comply with strikes. The minister said that there was a meeting that did not mean that strikes should not be held. Everyone had to go and talk to dangote; dangote should not break the law,” he revealed while talking to journalists.

Confirming the disturbance, NUPRC spokesman Eniola Akintuotu said staff were prohibited from entering their office. “They do not allow us to enter today,” he said.

This action has affected the power supply, because the closure of the gas supply has cut the power plant. At 9 am, the Nigerian independent system operator (NISO) only sent 2,698MW to 11 electricity distribution companies, with 14 out of 26 generation companies in operations that produce 3,092.41MW.
