Peter Obi explained why he canceled a benue visit, quoting “troubling incidents”

Peter Obi, a presidential candidate for the Labor Party (LP) in the 2023 election, has discussed the cancellation of suddenly from his visit planned to the state of Benue, describing the situation as a “troubling incident.”

In a statement released in Abuja on Monday, Obi explained that while he usually avoided public comments about the challenging political situation, this new event around his Benue’s journey forced him to speak.

He stated that his travel plan included visits to the highlands and benue, which aimed at supporting internal refugees (IDP) and promoting initiatives in health and education. The highlands, which are scheduled for Sunday, April 13, and benue visits for Monday, April 14, will involve politeness calls on each state governor, visits to IDP camps, and involved with institutions such as nursing schools.

Obi recounted his protocol which used to provide information to the state government about his intended visit, noting that the Governor of the State of the highlands welcomed him and provided the support needed for his interaction with refugees in the Bokkos camp. However, his experience with a benue is very different.

“Former Governor of the State Anambra explained that apart from a number of efforts, he could not make direct contact with the Governor of the State Benue. He finally managed to speak with the Governor of the Aide (ADC), who informed that the governor was not in the meeting, and promised him to repay his call before midnight.

Despite the lack of direct communication with the governor, Obi decided to continue his journey to Makurdi, looking at the nickname as secondary from his main goal. Leaving Jos at 7 am on the planned day of visit, he received unexpected developments while on the way. After reaching Akwanga around 10 am, his security team intercepted the press statement, reportedly issued by the Benue state government, effectively stopping his visit. Meanwhile, while he is still discussing the problem with his team, a more advanced governor.

Obi further recorded the statement content, saying, “The statement outlines the schedule of the travel plan that I previously shared with ADC and security operators in Benue through my own security team.”

He repeated the intention of pure humanity behind his visit, emphasizing the old commitment to support the area of ​​critical development and welfare of the neglected Nigerians. “People may remember how, during the Haiti earthquake, I had to ask for permission from President Goodluck Jonathan at that time to travel and offer support,” he quoted as an example of his consistent dedication for such purposes, even before and throughout his political career.

Obi detailed his planned involvement in Benue, including visits to schools that were being built in Gboko, a nurse school, and a refugee camp, underlines its sustainable focus to improve the lives of vulnerable residents.

Summarizing his statement, Obi said the prayer: “May God help us when we rebuild our nation and fight for the new Nigeria, where we do not politicize everything, but instead live and act for the common good of all Nigerians, especially those who need it.”
