The Nigerian Police, under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has made remarkable progress in fighting crime and ensuring public safety across the country.
In a statement, the Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, said in the last six weeks, police officers have arrested a total of 1,284 suspects, including 307 armed robbery suspects, 296 kidnapping suspects, 301 murder suspects, 176 rape/assault suspects and 204 cult suspects.
Additionally, 284 firearms, 6,702 rounds of ammunition, 107 vehicles and 97 kidnapped victims were recovered.
Among the most notable achievements, the police managed to dismantle a notorious robbery ring operating in the Jos-North/Jos South region of Plateau State.
The criminal organization consisting of 16 members, including nine individuals who pretended to be police officers to steal motorcycles and tricycles, has been arrested.
In other operations, a notorious home robber and a group of metal prospectors who stole valuables from waste were also arrested.
IGP Egbetokun commended the officers and men of the Nigerian Police for their dedication and prompt execution of their duties.
In a bid to further combat crime, the IGP has established an anti-money laundering unit at the force headquarters, headed by Corporal Hycenth Edozie Azuka.
Additionally, a new commander has been appointed for the IGP-STFPIB, tasked with countering oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
“The Nigerian Police Force remains committed to its constitutional mandate to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
“The IGP reiterated his dedication to this mission and called for maximum cooperation and public support to minimize crime in society,” the statement read.
