Nigerian police on Saturday confirmed the arrest of Bristol Tamunobiefiri, alias PIDOMNigeria, an anonymous whistleblower known for exposing alleged government crimes on social media.
PIDOMNigeria was arrested on August 5 at a hotel in Rivers State, according to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi.
The arrest sparked widespread concern on social media, with many demanding to know PIDOMNigeria’s whereabouts using hashtags such as #PIDOM, #FreePidom, and #WhereisPidom.
Police have now revealed that PIDOMNigeria is facing charges of unlawful possession, leaking of classified documents and cyber-related offences, in addition to undermining government operations.

Adejobi said, “In a well-coordinated effort, officers of the Nigerian Police Cybercrime Centre arrested Bristol Isaac Tamunobiefiri, also known as PIDOM, for serious offences that undermine the integrity of government operations. The arrest took place on August 5, 2024, in his hotel room in Rivers State.
“There are several charges against the suspect, including illegal possession, leaking of confidential documents, cyber violations, etc.”
Adejobi assured that a thorough investigation would be carried out into the allegations, saying, “We will do our due diligence in conducting a thorough investigation into the cases.” The police aim to uphold the law and ensure a safe country, “nothing will go unnoticed.”
