Police arrest five on charges of attempted murder in Oyo

Police on Friday arraigned five men at the Iyaganku Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for the alleged attempted murder of a neighbour.

The accused are – Aliu Hammed (23), Molomo Tairu (20), Haruna Isiaq (25), Abdullahi Isiaq (22), and Abdulmumini Idris (25).

They were charged with two counts of conspiracy and attempted murder.

The Magistrate, Mr M. Mudashiru, who did not accept the defendants’ plea for lack of jurisdiction ordered their detention at the Agodi Correctional Centre in Ibadan.

The defendants were remanded in custody on the advice of the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The judge then postponed the case until October 21 for the reading of the charges.

Earlier, prosecutor Inspector Femi Oluwadare told the court that the accused allegedly conspired together to commit the offence.

Oluwadare said the defendants on August 3 attempted to slaughter Abdulqadri Soliu with a knife in Alaraba village.

He said the offence violated sections 320 and 324 of the Oyo State Criminal Code 2000.
