Nigerian police have announced the arrest of two political hoodlums during a night raid in different locations in Edo State.

The Force’s Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a press release on Saturday, September 21.

According to Adejobi, the police recovered three locally made custom-cut pistols and one locally made weapon from the suspects. The operation, part of the force’s efforts to curb political violence in the state, highlights the ongoing security measures being implemented as the elections approach.

He said;

“The Nigerian police have taken a major step forward in their efforts to curb electoral violence in Edo State with the arrest of two political offenders, namely: Edwin Obanor, 43, and Audu Tajudeen, 41, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, from Ugbogbo Ward, Igara Akoko, Edo.
“Acting on a tip-off that some individuals were armed to create disruption and instability during Saturday’s elections, police officers swung into action and arrested Obanor, a leader of an armed group, in Oredo Ward 4 at about 9pm and Audu Tajudeen in Igara Akoko, Edo, on the eve of the elections.
“These arrests are a testament to the Nigerian Police’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
“The police and other supporting security agencies will not tolerate any form of violence or disorder during the elections in Edo State.”
