Police arrested 22 illegal miners in Niger

Police operations in Niger have arrested 22 illegal miners in the state.

The suspects were arrested after a clash of violence that erupted between them in the Wushishi Estate area in Minna.

Spokesman for the State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the clash on Friday.

He said, “On July 10, 2025, around 10:00 in the morning, based on information received about illegal miners who were at odds around the Mi Wushishi plantation area in Minna, DPO from the Maitumbi Division which was mobilized to the area.

“While some criminals escaped, around 22 people were arrested, including several women, and they were taken to SCID in Minna. Regional monitoring is ongoing, with the intention to capture other members who escaped from the illegal mining group that caused riots in the area.”
