Police operatives in Anambra on Monday arrested four suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in a raid on the group’s camp in Ufuma, Orumba North local government area of ββthe state.
Spokesman of the state police command, Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the news in a statement on Tuesday in Awka, said the operation was carried out following information regarding planned attacks on security agents and innocent citizens carried out by the group.
The statement read: βPolice-led Joint Security Forces in Aguata on 17/6/2024 intercepted four suspected ESN militias in Ufuma, Orumba North LGA of Anambra State. The arrest follows information received so far regarding plans to attack security agents and innocent citizens by the feared group.
βAmong the four suspects arrested is one Maduabuchi Nwafor alias Omenkpo βMβ aged 32, an indigene of Ufuma. He has been identified as one of the native doctors who prepared criminal amulets for the group and used its temples for initiation ceremonies and meeting places for criminals.
“In addition, one of the suspects who has provided information to the police admitted to being one of the armed men sent by the group to carry out an illegal house sit-in on May 30, 2024.”
