Police operatives in Imo on Sunday foiled an attack by suspected bandits on the divisional headquarters in Umuakah, Njaba local government area of the state.
State police command spokesman Henry Okoye confirmed the attack in a statement on Monday in Owerri.
He said three criminals were killed in the operation.
Okoye said the attackers arrived at the headquarters in three Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and launched a violent attack on the facility with sporadic gunfire.

He said: “In response, the gallant officers quickly took up defensive positions and engaged the attackers, resulting in the neutralization of three of the attackers.
“The remaining attackers, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, fled into nearby bushes.
“In the operation, our troops secured one Multipurpose Machine Gun, one AK-47 rifle, and three vehicles: one Toyota Lexus 470, one Mercedes GLK, and one Toyota Venza.”
The spokesman added that an intensive operation led by the state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, was ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
