Police have rejected Kano Governor’s request to evict Emir Bayero from the mini-palace

Tensions escalated in Kano after Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, requested police assistance in ousting ousted Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, which was rejected by the Police.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, AIG Usaini Gumel, Friday, gave reasons why the police ignored Governor Yusuf’s directive on the eviction of the ousted Emir of Kano.

This comes just days after a Federal High Court decision annulled Sanusi’s reinstatement, a controversial move by Yusuf himself. The Kano State Government had hoped to use police forces to remove Bayero from the palace, but the Police response showed reluctance to get involved in what could be a volatile situation.

Speaking in an interview with Blow on Friday, the police commissioner said that complying with the governor’s eviction order was tantamount to “drawing a gun.”

According to him, the government that gave the order has filed a lawsuit with the State High Court regarding the eviction order which will be issued on Monday, June 24 2024.

“The police will not evict the deposed Emir because the same government has filed a case with the State High Court over the eviction order which will be issued on Monday, June 24 2024.

“The government immediately took action because the same government has filed a case regarding the eviction order which will be issued on June 24 2024. So, if we implement the order, we will be preempting the eviction. court because we don’t know what will happen in court,” he added.
